An assistant…

…is a wonderful thing!
Although I normally work alone, it is sometimes nice to have some assistance. It makes it easier to create the more challenging pieces. Here I am working with fellow glass artist Rebecca Roffe…..

When I started my eco build I wanted to make my glass blowing more eco-friendly. As well as reclaiming the waste heat I wanted to reclaim any “waste” glass so I started making kiln formed coasters. I also incorporate fusing … Continued

The joys of cold-work….

Glassmaking, for me, is all about hot work.
With coronavirus lockdown putting a temporary halt to my glass blowing classes, I have reluctantly switched the furnace off….
…and I have a confession “I do not like cold-work”.

It’s unusual for me to put coasters up as my Piece-of-the-Week but I really like these four based on the cinnabar moth. I have split them into two pairs but they do work as a set of four as well!I am seeing less of the moths now and more of the caterpillars – perhaps my next piece should be the caterpillars munching on the ragwort!siddy-langley-glass.myshopify.com/search?type=product&q=cinnabar

I’ve been enjoying photographing the Beautiful Demoiselles down by the river this week. Their wing colour is fabulous set against the white of the bubbles and the flowers . I even had the male and (more golden) female together at one point which was nice to see.My piece of the week celebrates the teal and white of the Demoiselles down by the river. siddy-langley-glass.myshopify.com/products/teal-demoiselle-flask?_pos=1&_sid=20a98dfe8&_ss=r

This year has been the “Year of the Iris” for me. I always love anything related to my pond but this year I have been putting irises on everything. It has a special meaning for me as my mum’s name was Iris even though she preferred to be called Pat!siddy-langley-glass.myshopify.com/search?type=product&q=iris

I have just spent a wonderful weekend up with The Northern Paperweight Society near Clitheroe in Lancashire. This Clematis Montana paperweight is one I made last week to take up and show them.I am coveting a Clematis Montana “Mayleen” as my next acquisition for the garden! Apparently the scent is amazing.siddy-langley-glass.myshopify.com/products/clematis-montana-paperweight?_pos=1&_sid=dadda6ee0&_ss=r

Pretty much exactly a year ago I wrote about how gutted I was to have a “Foxglove” piece I really liked “jump” out of the kiln and crack.Having sat on the shelf accusingly for almost a year, last week I gently (well as “gentle” as you can be with a hammer!) broke it and have used the broken pieces and other broken bits around the studio to make this flat panel – mounted in an oak stand. The “jumpy” piece has finally fulfilled its potential!siddy-langley-glass.myshopify.com/products/foxglove-flat-panel-in-oak-stand?_pos=1&_sid=04f6b4be9…Here is a link to the original Facebook post from 16th June2024www.facebook.com/profile/100062338945669/search/?q=foxgloves
